San Fernando Valley, CA – The United Automobile Workers (UAW) Region 5 Western States CAP Council has endorsed Andrew Lachman and his campaign for the California State Assembly’s new 46th District.

UAW Region 5 represents automobile, aerospace, and agricultural workers in 17 western and southwestern states, stretching from Hawaii and Alaska to Missouri and Louisiana. Andrew Lachman previously received the endorsement of UAW Local 887, which represents aerospace workers in Southern California. Local 887 members built America’s Space Shuttle fleet and sections of the International Space Station. UAW also represents University of California academic student employees following their 17-year fight to gain union recognition. Since its founding in the 1930s, UAW has led the way in the fight for economic and social justice.

“The UAW protects economic sectors that have been vital to our past success and are critical to our nation’s future, from the automobile industry onto aerospace,” said Andrew Lachman. “Without skilled and dedicated workers, our industries would not be able to consistently exceed the high standards of success demanded by consumers. I will fight to ‘Make it in California’ and will work to create new, well-paying jobs right here.”

The California State Assembly’s new 46th District is located in the San Fernando Valley and includes all or part of the communities of Lake Balboa, North Hills, Panorama City, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Toluca Lake, Valley Village, Valley Glen, and Van Nuys.

Andrew Lachman served as the Consultant to the Joint Committee on the Arts for the California Legislature and is currently an Adjunct Professor in Business Law and Policy at Woodbury University in Burbank.
San Fernando Valley, CA – The California Teachers Association (CTA), representing more than 325,000 public school teachers and health and human services professionals, has endorsed Andrew Lachman for the California State Assembly’s new 46th District. This endorsement from the state’s largest teachers union, in a district where education consistently ranks among the most important issues, adds significant momentum for Lachman, who serves as Adjunct Professor of Business Law at Woodbury University.

“Andrew Lachman understands that our public schools and educators need more support and more resources to help students in the Valley reach their potential. Andrew’s experience as a professor and activist make him the right person for the job. California’s teachers are proud to recommend Andrew Lachman for the Assembly,” said Dean E. Vogel, President, California Teachers Association.

“CTA is on the front lines fighting for students and quality public schools to create a better future for all Californians. I am proud to have their support,” said Andrew Lachman. “Our schools need smart solutions to compete in the 21st century. As a local educator and the son of a public school teacher, I will never back down in the fight to provide our public schools with the resources they need.”

“The opponents of public education have been put on notice. I cannot understate the importance of this endorsement,” said Vince Duffy, Lachman’s campaign consultant. “With the unanimous endorsement of UTLA and now strong support from CTA, there can be no doubt Andrew Lachman is the education candidate in this race.”

San Fernando Valley, CA – State Senator Juan Vargas has endorsed Andrew Lachman and his campaign for State Assembly.

“Andrew’s experience in the private sector, the state legislature and education will be an asset in Sacramento, help create jobs in the state and protect crucial state services. His passion for policy and helping give a voice to those who are not being heard is unmistakable,” said State Senator Juan Vargas.

“Senator Vargas has been a strong advocate for working families, and I am proud to have his support,” said Andrew Lachman. “My experience as a college educator, State Senator’s aide, City Commissioner and technology attorney have taught me how to solve problems and bring people together to get results—which is desperately needed in Sacramento. I understand the hard work of making change—the nuts and bolts of political action at all levels of government—and will bring new leadership for the Valley to Sacramento.”

Senator Vargas was elected to represent San Diego in the State Senate in 2010, having previously represented the area for six years in the State Assembly. The Senator is currently serving as Chair of the Senate Committee on Banking and Financial Institutions, where he fights to protect homeowners hit hard by the mortgage crisis.

San Fernando Valley, CA – United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA), representing 40,000 public school teachers and health and human services professionals in the nation’s second largest school district, has unanimously given Andrew Lachman their sole endorsement for the California State Assembly’s new 46th District. The endorsement is a major boost for Lachman, who serves as Adjunct Professor of Business Law at Woodbury University.

“Students and teachers are under constant assault by the dual threat of budget cuts and privatization proponents,” said Gregg Solkovits, Secondary Vice President and Political Officer for UTLA. “We support Andrew Lachman for State Assembly because he understands that diverting money from our neighborhood public schools is a recipe for failure. Andrew, an educator himself, knows that access to quality, public education is a key to future success. He will ensure that all students have the opportunity to learn and thrive.”

“UTLA represents the hardest working teachers I know, who fight every day so their students have a shot at a better future. I am proud to have their support,” said Andrew Lachman. “As the son of a public school teacher and social worker, I grew up in a family that valued education and public service. Now, an educator myself, I understand the challenges facing California’s schools and know we need decisive action to fix a system that is failing students and teachers, and leaving communities behind. I will bring smart solutions for our schools to Sacramento.”

“As an educator, I support Andrew Lachman because he brings innovation and a fresh approach to helping solve the problems that public schools are facing today and will work to ensure that resources are available to all students,” said Valley teacher Brent Smiley, Vice-Chair UTLA/PACE.

“The endorsement of UTLA adds further momentum to Andrew’s campaign, which was recently boosted by endorsements from Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones, labor leader Dolores Huerta, and environmental activist Ed Begley, Jr.,” said Vince Duffy, Lachman’s campaign consultant. “Education consistently ranks as Democratic voters’ highest priority. Andrew, a college professor, is now well-positioned to be the education candidate in this Democratic district.”

Andrew has received the support of over twenty local unions and continues to connect with voters on the ground.

The California State Assembly’s new 46th District is located in the San Fernando Valley and includes all or part of the communities of Lake Balboa, North Hills, Panorama City, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Toluca Lake, Valley Village, Valley Glen, and Van Nuys.

San Fernando Valley, CA – The Andrew Lachman for Assembly campaign is proud to announce that Labor Leader Dolores Huerta has endorsed Andrew Lachman and his bid for the California State Assembly’s new 46th district.

Dolores Huerta co-founded the United Farm Workers with Cesar Chavez and has been a leader in the Labor and Latino communities for decades.
“Dolores Huerta is a living legend in California politics and she has been a trailblazer for justice not just for Latinos, but for all Californians,” said Andrew Lachman. “Growing up in a family that has long been dedicated to public service, her tireless work for justice and civil rights has been an inspiration to us all. She reminds us that not only do we need to protect those who have been hit hardest by cuts to vital social services, but we need to bring jobs back to California that provide not just a paycheck, but also respect and dignity.”

Strategic Advisor Jerry Levey from Glen-Lambert, Levey & Diener noted the significant impact of this endorsement, “Dolores Huerta’s endorsement, along with the endorsement of 25 local unions, solidifies Andrew’s front-runner status in the Labor community, and will add to his support with the important Latino community in the 46th.”

San Fernando Valley, CA – State Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones endorsed Andrew Lachman for State Assembly, becoming the first state constitutional officer to make an endorsement in the 46th Assembly District.

“The son of a public health physician, Andrew Lachman knows what works and what does not work in our health care system. His private sector experience, state legislative staff work, and work on government efficiency at the local level give him a unique skillset that will benefit the voters of his district,” said State Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones. “Implementing healthcare reform requires legislators that understand the complexities of our health care system and know how to solve problems at all levels. Only Andrew has the experience to do that, and a strong commitment to make sure that California continues to stand for those most in need.”

Jones was elected State Insurance Commissioner in 2010 after serving in the State Assembly where he chaired the Assembly Health Committee, the Assembly Judiciary Committee and the Budget Subcommittee on Health and Human Services. He also served the Clinton Administration for three years as a special assistant in the U.S. Department of Justice, served as a Sacramento City Councilman and legal aid attorney.

“I am honored to receive the support of State Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones.” Said Andrew Lachman, “his leadership and dedication to helping others has always been an inspiration to me.”

The California State Assembly’s new 46th District is located in the San Fernando Valley and includes all or part of the communities of Lake Balboa, North Hills, Panorama City, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Toluca Lake, Valley Village, Valley Glen, and Van Nuys.
