Andrew Lachman has been a leader in improving our communities and defending Democratic values for over 22 years, serving as a Young Democrat officer from two states (Maryland and California) he has risen to become a leader in California Democratic politics.
This year, he was elected by the Executive Board of the California Democratic Party the Democratic National Committee and was selected as a co-chair of the Los Angeles Jewish Community Outreach Committee for the Obama-Biden Campaign. He is also Co-Chair of the California Democratic Party Credentials Committee.
Andrew has served as President of Democrats for Israel Los Angeles since 2005 and is actively leading the expansion of the National Jewish Democratic Council in the region as well. He is an alum of the Salvin-Glass Leadership Development Program of the Anti-Defamation League and the Los Angeles Jewish Federation New Leaders Program and is a member of the Los Angeles Jewish Community Relations Council and the Jewish Labor Committee.
He also has served his community, serving his second term as Chair of the MidCity West Community Council, the chartered advisory body for the Miracle Mile, Melrose and Beverly-Fairfax areas of Los Angeles. During his administration the MCWCC has greatly expanded community outreach, expanding the Miracle Mile Art Walk, participating in Emergency Preparedness fairs and partnering with Fairfax High School's conversion into a community-oriented small learning center environment. He also served as Public Safety Chair, creating an innovative grafitti-remediation program and as Bylaws chair, where he lead efforts to increase accountability and expand public participation.
Andrew has extensive campaign experience having served as Lead Organizer for the California Democratic Party's West Los Angeles office and outreach director for State Senator Mark Ridley-Thomas in 2006, Deputy Constituency Director and Senior/college outreach coordinator for the Pennsylvania Kerry-Edwards campaign in 2004, assisting with voter protection efforts in 2003, State Controller Steve Westly's Southern California Political Director in 2002 and Deputy Director of the Maryland Coordinated Campaign in 1994.
In government, he served as Political Director to D.C. Neighborhood Planning Commissioner Paul Strauss, Special Assistant to the Deputy Administrator of the Maryland State Highway Administration and as a member of the Congressional Internet Caucus Advisory Committee.
On a grassroots level, he served on the SoCal Grassroots Steering Committee in 2007 and as Corresponding Secretary of the Democratic Party of the San Fernando Valley from 2005-2007. In 2001 after serving two terms on the board of Los Angeles County Young Democrats board, he lead the turnaround of the San Fernando Valley Young Democrats, creating its well-known RFK Award and making it a reliable source of volunteers for campaigns. In 2004 Andrew was asked to co-found the Stonewall Young Democrats of Los Angeles, which has become a national model for organizing in the LGBT community.
